NG Transport supports Jimmie Phelan Memorial Bike Ride

NG Transport recently had the pleasure of supporting the Jimmie Phelan memorial bike ride.

Jimmie was a truly wonderful, generous guy and it was with great pleasure that NG Transport provided a back-up support vehicle to carry all spare bike parts and refreshments for the riders as well as participating in the event.

The bike ride was part of fund raising efforts aiming to raise £15,000 for Wythenshawe hospital where Jimmie was cared for after being diagnosed. If you wish to donate money for this good cause, please click here.

Nearly a year ago Jimmie Phelan passed away following a short, but chronic illness. In his memory, family and friends have started a year of fundraising to raise money for the clinic at Wythenshawe Hospital that treated and cared for him. This bike ride from Manchester where he lived, to Inistioge where he was born, raised and now laid to rest, is to raise as much money as possible to help others and fund research into this illness.

The clinic where Jimmie was treated looks after patients with a complex range of fibrotic lung diseases which cause scarring of the lungs. The treatment for these scarring conditions is often very ineffective and stabilising the disease is frequently the most that can be hoped for.

Many patients with fibrotic lung disease have similar outcomes to cancer patients but do not have access to the multidisciplinary level of care available for cancer sufferers.

Any funds raised towards the ILD clinic are used for patient care, teaching and research into fibrotic lung disease.

Jimmie was always one of the first to offer help to people who needed it and was heavily involved in fundraising for others during his life. We think it is a fitting tribute to him to try and raise as much money as possible to help other people who are suffering from this chronic illness.
